- Cracks in mortar caused by expansion from constant heat changes
- Debris blocking the natural flow of smoke causing build up of soot
- Lose bricks which can be very dangerous if they fall down the
chimney whilst someone is attending the fire - Lots and lots of spider webs which can be a fire hazard
